This workshop is suited to intermediate darkroom practitioners who want to control fine print contrast and enhance archival permanence. The Darkroom Mastery Workshop is limited to small groups of 4 participants plus one instructor and runs alternating Saturdays from 10:00am - 3:00pm.
Workshop Learning Outcomes
Assemble and use advanced darkroom printing components including enlarger filtration systems and fibre paper processing equipment
Evaluate fibre prints for contrast, tonal separation and depth, and identify adjustments required for improved reprinting
Handle and prepare toners correctly, and evaluate toned prints for colour and density shifts
Produce test strips and interpret tonal response to determine final split exposures and filtration balance
Evaluate negatives for tonal range, highlight and shadow separation, and suitability for split-grade fibre-based enlargement
Apply washing, hypo-clearing and drying techniques specific to fibre-based papers to maximise longevity
