At Brunswick Darkroom, we hand print colour negatives using the RA-4 process. RA-4 printing is a traditional darkroom technique introduced by Kodak in the 1976, building on decades of colour printing traditions that began in the 1940's.
Instead of ink-spray and pixels, your image is brought to life by rich dyes, thickly anointed upon silver gelatine paper. Their fixed presence is guided only by the soft hum of light shone through your original film negative.
Good things take time - nothing trumps the slow, traditional expression of colour photographic images with darkroom RA-4 printing.
Our pricing structure includes initial colour-balancing of your negatives plus material set-up in the cost of your first print. Subsequent prints benefit from the physical aspects of RA-4 printing being "dialled in".
Photographers with consistent lighting set-ups (identical exposures between images) and those looking to print a collection of 20 images or more should contact us for custom pricing structures. Photographers looking to print multiple sizes in one order should also get in touch.
Negatives for printing can be dropped off in-person at Brunswick Darkroom, on 1/91 Nicholson Street Brunswick East, Melbourne, Sundays between 10:00am - 3:00pm. Out of state orders can be made by mailing negatives to our address. Our lead time is 3 weeks for delivery of physical prints and scans.
